ICYCC HISTORY

"THE PLACE TO BE IN THE NORTHERN NECK OF VIRGINIA" - Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club, founded in 1955, is considered one of the most congenial and active clubs in Virginia. Ultimate in its country club concept, Indian Creek caters to those who have chosen to spend their time in the attractive and pleasant Tidewater region of Virginia. The Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries flow through the region, as well as through the hearts of those who choose to belong to Indian Creek. The Club, now as when it was founded, carries a reputation of service, excellence, and beauty that is uncompromised.

The only member-owned country club in the area, Indian Creek plays a central role in the social and recreational activities of the Northern Neck. It combines excellent facilities, to include a beautifully renovated and redesigned 18-hole, par-72 golf course, and attentive service with a friendly, comfortable atmosphere. Many members and nearby organizations use our facilities for their special entertainment needs and exquisite private parties. It is the site of the annual Holly Ball, a local tradition for over 100 years, where area debutantes take their bows.

Situated on land purchased by Robert Jones from the local Indians in 1662, the Indian Creek Clubhouse structure has been a feature of this part of the Northern Neck for over two hundred years. It was built as a family home in the late 1700's on property that had been one of the large tracts owned by Robert "King" Carter. The property passed through several generations of the Carters until sold to the Kelley family in the 1800's, with the estate then named "East Richmond". Over the years, it has been home to many families, including a Hollywood actress.

On June 11, 1955 this historic family home became a clubhouse when the Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club was chartered. Today, the entrance hall, living room, Commodore's Room and portions of the upstairs remain original. The Clubhouse now features a formal dining room, the Grill Room, the Trophy Room, the Commodore's Room, an outside terrace, and lounges and locker rooms.

With a breadth of activities, lovely historic setting, country charm, and the warmth of its membership, Indian Creek holds a special place in the hearts of all who have made it their Club
