Mike Mayer , Head PGA Golf Professional
In 2007, Mike Mayer joined the team at Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club as our Head Golf Professional. Mike was born in St. Louis; moved to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia as a teenager. He began playing golf at age 15 while working at Wintergreen Resort and Club. While a student at University of Virginia, Mike worked at Wintergreen’s Devils Knobb Golf Course.
After graduating with a degree in Economics, Mike decided to stay in the golf industry and turn professional. He became a Class A member of the PGA in 1991 and accepted the position of Director of Golf at Wintergreen Resort. During his time at Wintergreen, the golf program grew from 18 holes to 45 holes. More recently, Mike held the position of Head Golf Professional at King Carter Golf Course.
Some of Mike’s education and awards include: MAPGA Merchandiser of the Year – Resort Division, Western Director and Education Chairman of the Virginia Chapter of the PGA, Co-Leader of the Resort Quality Assurance Steering Committee, Certified golf fitness instructor, Certified Ping, Titleist and Cobra club fitter, PGA Business School II Top 5% and 4th in the USA
BRENDA MAYER, Assistant P.G.A. Professional
Brenda is a Virginia native, and attended James Madison University. Brenda played on the golf team while there in the number one position all four years.
Brenda’s past achievements include winning the 1982 Virginia Collegiate Tournament, the 1986 Mid-Atlantic Amateur, and Medalist in the 1987 State Amateur. She also has five hole-in-ones to her credit.
Brenda turned professional in 1989. Her previous experience includes assistant professional at Waynesboro C.C., The Wintergreen Golf Academy, and King Carter Golf Club. She is widely known as an exceptional instructor for both adults, and juniors.
Brenda is currently the Director of the local Junior River Golf Tournament.
Brian Camfield, Assistant Golf Professional
Brian recently joined the golf staff as Assistant Professional. Originally from the Charlottesville area, he recently completed his Masters Degree in Sports Management from The University of South Carolina. His undergraduate degree was from Virginia Commonwealth University. Brian has worked for many fine golf facilities while completing his education and will now focus on taking care of our Indian Creek Members.
