A Brief History
Indian Creek Yacht & Country Club was founded in 1955 as a country club community. The property was purchased from I. Norris Blake, who along with George Noblett, Dixon Foster, Dr. Gravatt and several others helped start the Club as a social hub for the Northern Neck. When Mr. Blake and other local businessmen started the Club, it was comprised of a cinderblock pool, dock and old farm house as the clubhouse. The physical property itself has an extensive historical past prior to the start of “ICYCC” in 1955.
The Club may have started small at 122 shares, but it continued to grow. In the 70’s and 80’s the club demographics shifted from mostly locals to retirees from both near and far. The Club currently boasts 585 memberships made up of a combination of locals, out-of-town residents and retirees to the Northern Neck. Today charter member, Mrs. Nancy Foster, remains in the club as an honorary member.
Numerous upgrades have been made over the years including: the addition of the back nine on the course, the installation of a tennis program that included four outdoor courts and two indoor climate controlled courts, a junior sports and sailing summer program, a major dock expansion, a major golf course renovation in 2005, addition of an outdoor dining venue and renovation of the golf practice area.
What makes ICYCC distinctive is the character and community the membership affords combined with the life-long friends that are made. A reason to belong to a country club is not only for the outstanding service and amenities, but the sense of belonging, which ICYCC members have down to a “T”. All club events, social and sport related, are centered around the mission of offering an active lifestyle and social circle for those it serves.
The Club recently opened the Skipjack Bar, which has created a more casual, social, and drop-in friendly atmosphere.
